ISLAND A WEEK: Aegean Collection - KALYMNOS

My AEGEAN COLLECTION features rings and pendants that have been inspired by the light and color of my beloved Greek Islands. These pieces are mixed media jewelry, where each piece has a ceramic shard as its focal. For each ring or pendant, I have completed the ceramic shard in a different way, using different materials and techniques such as metal (aluminium or copper) sheet, copper wire, polymer clay and acrylic paints.
Each piece of my Aegean Collection is named after a different island, so I thought I'd introduce them one by one! Welcome to the wonderful world of the Greek Islands of the Aegean!!!
Here is a beautiful and complete website about the Greek Islands:

KALYMNOS (Greek Κάλυμνος) is a Greek island and municipality in the southeastern Aegean Sea. It belongs to the Dodecanese and is located to the west of the Turkish peninsula of Bodrum, between the islands of Kos and Leros. Kalymnos is a colorful typically Greek island with brightly painted houses, lovely old mansions and walled orchards, and of course a wonderful sea and beautiful beaches. The east coast is relatively harsh and uninhabited. Kalymnos has only recently been discovered as a tourist destination. The inhabitants’ traditional occupation was sponge fishing, which led to economic growth. Traditions are still maintained and celebrated on this beautiful island, reminiscing the sponge-fishing boat departures, the moments of separation and then the celebration of their successful return.
