ISLAND A WEEK: Aegean Collection - RODOS

My AEGEAN COLLECTION features rings and pendants that have been inspired by the light and color of my beloved Greek Islands. These pieces are mixed media jewelry, where each piece has a ceramic shard as its focal. For each ring or pendant, I have completed the ceramic shard in a different way, using different materials and techniques such as metal (aluminium or copper) sheet, copper wire, polymer clay and acrylic paints.
Each piece of my Aegean Collection is named after a different island, so I thought I'd introduce them one by one! Welcome to the wonderful world of the Greek Islands of the Aegean!!!
Here is a beautiful and complete website about the Greek Islands:

RHODES (Greek Ρόδος, Ródos) is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population. It is located approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) southwest of Turkey in the eastern Aegean Sea. In the ancient times, it was famous for its Colossus, the giant statue of god Helios (the Sun) that used to stand above the port. The Colossus is now considered as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Today, Rhodes is among the most popular Greek islands, famous for its beautiful beaches, the green and varied landscapes, the traditional villages and the Old Town of Rhodes, one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. The incredible mix of ancient and modern, East and West, modern mass tourism and unspoiled genuine landscapes and villages, crowded beaches and completely deserted coasts, make it a unique destination.
